All is set for the mega rally of the Kwara State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) holding on Tuesday, July 26, 2022 in solidarity with the striking workers in public universities nationwide.
The rally will take off at 7:30 am at the state NLC Secretariat beside High Court, Ilorin, the state capital.
A joint statement issued in Ilorin on Monday by the state NLC Chairman, Comrade Aliyu Issa Ore, and Chairman, Rally Mobilization Committee, Comrade Rafiu Adeniran, said arrangement has been concluded for a successful rally.
They noted that the rally, which was at the instance of the National Headquarters of the organized labour, was to fast track quick resolution of the issues that precipitated the lingering industrial action in the university system.

The state NLC said it was disturbed that the strike action had made students in public universities idle while the resultant effect was observed in the upsurge in crimes believed to have been perpetrated mostly by the youth.
The organized labour lamented what it claimed is the failure of the federal government to honour the agreement between it and the aggrieved university workers, which had caused the prolonged strike.

The statement, however, appealed to affiliate unions of NLC, civil society groups and nongovernmental organizations to mobilize their members in large numbers for tomorrow’s mega rally.
It would be recalled that the Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU), Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) and National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) had embarked on industrial action after what it claimed that the federal government had not met their demands for improved welfare and infrastructure in public universities among others.
