Commonwealth Games: Dare, Gumel, Oladapo Visit Team Nigeria Camp

The Minister of Youth and Sports Development Sunday Dare, on Wednesday, paid a visit to some Team Nigeria athletes at the Commonwealth Games Birmingham Welcome Reception, held at the Games Village in the United Kingdom.

Team Nigeria athletes and officials were all present at the 2022 Commonwealth Games Welcome Reception. Dare was accompanied by Habu Gumel, the President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) and Banji Oladapo, the Secretary General.

The Sports Minister congratulated some of the athletes who were part of the Oregon 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, USA. He urged the athletes to demonstrate the same level of zeal and commitment seen in Oregon, tasking them to stay disciplined and focused.

“I am appealing to you all to stay hungry for success, disciplined and focused on doing our nation proud,” Dare said.

“Remember, our zero tolerance for doping or cutting corners. Let us win fairly and cleanly.”

The Commonwealth Games Welcome Reception was organised by the Major of Birmingham to welcome participating countries.

Representing the Chef De Mission, Maria Wophil thanked the organisers of the reception, promising that Team Nigeria will be worthy competitors at the Games.
