Nigerians have been urged to give credible information to security operatives for them to further confront the lingering security challenges in the country, especially terrorism, banditry and kidnapping.
The National Coordinator of Civil Society Organization for Conflict Resolution in Nigeria, (CS-CRIN), Adeniyi Aremu in a media briefing in Kano State, North Western Nigeria, said security operatives rely on credible intelligence reports given to them by citizens to mitigate a lot of security challenges.
“Nigerians should volunteer credible information and report suspicious movements to security operatives so that they can take the fight to the criminals,” he said.
He equally called on the Nigerian government to prioritize welfare of security personnels as the lack of such could lead to compromise of duties, stressing that reports are already indicating that direction.
Aremu also suggested an overhaul of the security architecture of the country where possible, to mitigate the challenges of banditry, Kidnapping, terrorism and other vices confronting the nation.
On the 2023 general elections, Aremu said there is concern about possible escalation of political violence in Kano state and indeed the entire nation.
He said the organization is working in collaboration with security agencies and other stakeholders to fight the menace through sensitization for people to shun every form of violence as well as hate speech.
“We are working closely against the dividers who create these problems,” he added.
CS-CRIN is a Civil Society organization with support fund, in implementing the European Union and Agents for Citizens-Driven Transformation, EU/ACT, and peace building programme in Nigeria.
The programme aims at strengthening Community Engagement towards Peace Building and Conflict Management in Nigeria.
