Nigeria’s Former Minister of Sports and Youths Development, Bolaji Abdullahi has called for an urgent resolution of the Academic staff Union of Universities ASUU strike to save the nation’s education sector from total collapse.

According to him, the issue in contention should be resolved amicably to enable students resume academic activities.

Abdullahi made the call in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital North Central Nigeria while delivering a lecture on the 33rd edition of the Media Parliament of the Kwara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

He expressed worry over the security challenges in the country, adding that all hands must be on deck to bring a lasting solution to the problem.

Mallam Abdullahi who is the Kwara Central Senatorial Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming general elections also urged the youths to contribute their quota to ensure better development of the country.

The former Minister emphasized that all hands must be on deck to build a country that works for all irrespective of religion and tribal affiliations.

“Let us build our own Nigeria in the interest of Nigerians, not Nigeria in the interest of the British empire, he said.

Abdullahi, who lamented the spate of kidnappings, maiming, killings and massacres, frowned at the government’s ways of handling the situation.

“There is no country in the world that will be facing what Nigeria is facing at the moment that the country will not be passed as a failed country.

He, therefore, stressed the need for all Nigerians to wake up from their slumbers and think of permanent solutions to the challenges of insecurity, economic instability among others for a prosperous nation.

The former Minister also tasked the country’s leaders to strive towards building trust and confidence in the citizens with the entrenchment of good governance.

The Council Chairman, Abdullateef Lanre Ahmed, said the event is epochal in the annals of the Kwara State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in its quest for habitable society where every citizen is proud to be identified and called Nigerians.
