Nigeria’s Refugee Commission calls for equality in settling IDPs

The National Commission for Refugees Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons in Nigeria has called for equality in settling displaced persons in the country.

The Federal Commissioner, Imaan Suleiman-Ibrahim who stated this in a message to commemorate World Humanitarian Day, in Abuja also appealed to leaders and policy makers at all levels to pay attention to inequalities that result from displacement.

According to her, inequality and displacement are the major drivers of insecurity and other socio-economic problems.

She said while addressing the root causes of global humanitarian crisis, there is a crucial need to address the consequences with a developmental focal lens.

“Within the context of global perspectives, humanitarian workers and policy makers must be strong advocates of safe, orderly and regular migration for development.

Addressing President Muhammadu Buhari as the Number one Humanitarian President, Sulaiman-Ibrahim, commended his resolve to provide succour for the vulnerable and his focus on ensuring they build back better adding that history would be kind to his resounding legacy.

The Federal Commissioner further thanked the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farooq for her commitment to ensuring synergy and coordination of the humanitarian space.

Furthermore, the Refugee Commission Boss applauded all humanitarian workers for their dedication, discipline and diligence to their duties in robustly scaling up humanitarian responses at different levels.

The theme for this year’s Humanitarian Day is ‘It Takes A Village.
