The Chairman, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), in the Nigerian Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, Mr. Christopher Zakka, has advised the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) to desist from sabotaging the effort of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regarding claiming to be the winner of the AMAC election held on February 12.

Speaking during an interaction with members of AMAC Press Corps, Zakka lamented that, after two months in office, he is yet to settle down to fulfill his campaign promises because of the judgment by the FCT Election Tribunal that removed him from office on August 5.

Zakka said that APC misled the tribunal by presenting a fake result that was opposed to the result on the INEC server. Many still wonder why Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) is yet to arrest the situation.

He says, “INEC needs commendation for overseeing a transparent, free and fair area council elections in February. With the introduction of BVAS by INEC, Nigeria will have successful elections in 2023.

“However, I am disappointed some desperate politicians want to take over AMAC by lying that they won the council election in February, misleading the tribunal with a fake election result.”

INEC certified the PDP won the AMAC election with 19,302 votes, while APC got 13 249 votes. The actual election result is in the INEC server, so where did they get their result from? You cannot be misleading the tribunal with fake results.

“By now, I expect the desperate elements to be in jail for trying to tarnish the reputation of INEC. What is ICPC doing?

“Also, I am unhappy with what I witnessed on the ground in AMAC. I am trying to revamp the system because it is a shame that an institution like AMAC cannot pay staff salaries, despite having outlets for revenue generation.

“Soon, people will no longer pay revenue in cash. This is because many people print fake receipts and take them to investors on behalf of AMAC.

“Soon also, people will start paying revenue into AMAC account. My government will focus on rural development.

“During my campaign, I visited some communities and realized they lacked potable water. By the grace of God, once we are declared victorious by the court of appeal, I will take further action. For now, I am not happy I am being distracted by the ongoing court case,” Zakka stated.
