Kwara State Government to Promote All-Year Round Farming
The Kwara State Government has said it is ready to promote all-year round farming activities to ensure massive food production in the state.
The state Commissioner for Agriculture, Malam AbdulLateef Alakawa, disclosed this when he received the leadership of Nigerian Institution of Agricultural Engineering (NIAE) in Ilorin,Kwara State.
The Commissioner informed that the state has renewed its commitment to sustainable commercial agriculture, noting that kwara was already implementing policies in line with the vision.
Alakawa observed that agricultural engineers have crucial roles to play towards developing agriculture in the state.
His words: “The role of agricultural engineers in food production and its value chain in the country is crucial. As a state, we have taken steps to develop the capacity of stakeholders in the sector such as engineers and extension officers. Also, the commissioner said that the state government had procured two new bulldozers and 15 tractors to promote mechanization, we will soon inaugurate irrigation equipment,” he assured.
Alakawa further noted that the state government had cleared 100 hectares of land at Agbeyangi, Ilorin East Local Government Area as part of its Farm Kwara Initiative, adding that another 500 hectares of land was cleared at Adanla in Ifelodun Local Government Area for the same purpose.
According to him, the state government has shown willingness to partner relevant stakeholders in the implementation of its policy on sustainable agriculture.
On his part, the NIAE’s National Chairman, Prof. Akindele Alonge, lauded the Kwara state government led by Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for its achievements in the agricultural sector.
