Former Head Of State General Abdulsalami Warns Against Campaigns of Calumny

A Former Military Head of State in Nigeria, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, has warned politicians against campaigns of calumny.

General Abdusalami also called on Nigerians not to sell their votes in the forthcoming general election.

The former Nigerian leader was speaking to Journalists as part of activities to mark the country’s 62nd Independence Anniversary in Minna, Niger State Capital.

According to him “Some electorates are still selling their votes, and the politicians are still encouraging the selling and buying of votes.

“Nigerians and all of us should put our heads together and all hands should be on deck to ensure that this phenomenal is brought to an end.

“I hope the electorates will bear in mind that it is their franchise to ensure that they vote people of calibre and their choice. And for God sake, nobody should go and sell his vote.

The Former Military head of state, further  charged politicians not to embark on campaign of calumny, saying, “as we go into 2023 elections campaign, there shouldn’t be abusive words in our campaigns. But as much as possible indulge in campaigns of tolerance”.

General Abdulsalaami, who however expressed hope in  the country stated  that since 1999, politicians and indeed Nigerians have been strengthening democracy in the country.

“Of course, there are pitfalls as we went along. We made mistakes and gradually our politicians are correcting these mistakes and also the politicians are also learning by the day,” he added.
