Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has hosted government officials, heads of security agencies, politicians and the business community to an anniversary gala in commemoration of Nigeria’s 62nd independence day and the 26th anniversary since the creation of the state.

The event, held at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, was kicked off with the cutting of the anniversary cake made in ‘green white green.’

In a brief remark, Governor Yahaya reaffirmed his conviction that despite passing through thick and thin in Nigeria’s over six decades journey, the citizens had every reason to celebrate the auspicious moment, because Nigeria had attained greatness in many facets of human endeavours.

He said after 26 years of existence as a full-fledged entity, Nigeria had outshined many of its peers created together in October 1996.

Governor Yahaya attributed the current Gombe State developmental status to the commitment of all the past and the present crop of leaders, who served in both military and democratic positions.

“Without commitment and resilience of some notable citizens who played key roles in their respective capacities to ensure Gombe attained statehood status we wouldn’t be opportuned today to serve you as Governors; that is why we will consistently be praying for them for Allah to reward them for such sacrifice.

The Gombe State Commissioner of Police, CP Ishola Babaita, who spoke on behalf of the Heads of Security Agencies, commended the Governor for showing patriotism by organizing the anniversary events to mark both Nigeria’s 62nd and Gombe’s 26th days.

CP Babaita also commended the Governor for his commitment to peace and security in Gombe State and for his constant support for the security agencies to facilitate their smooth operation in the state.

The event was attended by the Deputy Governor, Dr Manassah Daniel Jatau,  Speaker of Gombe State House of Assembly, Abubakar Mohammed Luggerewo,  Chief Judge, Justice Joseph Awak, Heads of Security Agencies, SSG, Chief of Staff, Head of Service, Commissioners and Special Advisers as well All Progressives Congress APC stakeholders and members of Gombe business community among others.
