Eritrean Human Smuggler Extradited to Netherlands

Ethiopia has extradited an Eritrean human smuggler to the Netherlands to face charges of running a “large-scale human trafficking.

Tewelde Goitom, known as Welid, was arrested in Ethiopia two years ago and sentenced to 18 years for human trafficking in Addis Ababa court.

The fresh charges against him are linked to the “smuggling of Eritreans into the Netherlands.”

According to the Dutch authorities, He arrived at Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport on Wednesday and expected to appear in court today .

The Human rights groups says , Eritreans flee their country because of “forced indefinite conscription, mass imprisonment enslavement, and torture,”

However, Fleeing Eritreans use smugglers to be taken to Europe via the Mediterranean Sea.

The amount of money demanded by the smugglers often increases along the way and migrants whose families cannot pay are torture. Reports said.
