Anambra NUJ Holds Youth Week Symposium

The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Anambra state council, in collaboration with the Global Initiative for Proper Parenting and Kolors of Afrika Television held its NUJ Youth symposium.

The symposium with the theme “Advocacy for Youth Inclusiveness and Development’’ was held at the Godwin Ezeemo International Press Center Awka.

The chairman of the occasion, Barrister Chidi Amaeze represented by Comrade Damian Ukatu thanked the NUJ chairman Dr Odogwu, for bringing the youths together in an effort to catch them young by grooming and guiding them on how to develop themselves for the future, advising those in attendance to be attentive and obtain the necessary information for their growth.

The host of the occasion and Chairman of NUJ, Anambra State Council, Dr Odogwu Emeka said that upon assuming office, he sought to impact all aspects of the society and as such decided to also impact the youths who are the future of the society.

He said that the main reason for the symposium is to include youths in all aspects of governance, noting that if they are to be included in governance, they must have a role model who has an impact on society and advised them to shun indolence, procrastination, despondency, presumption, and set high goals without being distracted.

Mrs Ifeoma Abayol, the keynote speaker, while speaking on the topic ‘Be faithful with your talent and time’ appreciated all who attended the occasion.

Good decisions

While noting that the youth can only be included if they have something to offer society, she advised the youths to spend their time on what will benefit them and also push for their voices to be heard, work hard, be determined, make good decisions and consider the long-term consequences of their actions.

Others who spoke at the event were, the Principal of St. John’s Science and Technical College, Alor, Reverend Father Francis Ukatu, the chairperson of the Organizing Committee, Chika Nnabuife, the founder of Global Initiative for Proper Parenting, Mrs Chidinma Okoye.

Students were drawn to the symposium from Nnamdi Azikiwe University High school, Awka Gold Seal International College, Awka, Regina Pacis Model Secondary School, Onitsha, St. John’s Science and Technical College, Alor, Queens Convent, Awka, among others
