Osun Local Government Election Ends With Low Voters Turnout

Collation of results in the just concluded Local Government elections in Osun State is underway.
The exercise, which was conducted by the Osun Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC) took place across the 332 Wards and 3763 Polling Units in the State.
The exercise was peaceful.
There were restrictions of human and vehicular movements on major roads during the poll.
Roads were empty and shops locked in compliance to the restriction order of the state government.
Security agents were seen patroling major roads to maintain law and order and forestall any crisis.
However, only the ruling party participated in the poll, with ballot paper, bearing the inscription of Yes or No, without any political party logo.
While the main opposition parties like Peoples Democratic Party, African Democratic Party and Allied Peoples Movement officially announced their withdrawal, citing legal reasons, reports say other political parties that had hitherto signified interest to participate in the exercise withdrew for lack fund to settle their registration fee with OSIEC.
At Polling Unit 1,2,3, 20, Ward 4, Ataoja Osogbo and Polling Units 13 Fagbewesa, Osogbo, in the state capital, voters were seen casting their votes without distractions,
The same was also witnessed in most of the polling units.
However, the polls were marred by low voters turnout at many of the polling units visited while commercial activities went on within the town as residents carried out their daily businesses.
The Chairman of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSIEC), Segun Oladitan stated on Thursday, that only one political party had signified intention to contest in the poll.
