British-Nigerian Rapper wins 2022 Mercury Prize

Little Simz, a British born Nigerian has won this year’s Mercury Prize, for the best British or Irish album of the last 12 months.

The 28-year-old who is the 31st winner of the prestigious award won the award for her fourth album ‘Sometimes I Might Be Introvert’. She follows after Arlo Parks who took home the award in 2021.

At the ceremony in London on Tuesday she said she was “very overwhelmed and grateful” to receive the honour. She also paid tribute to the other nominees, who included Self Esteem, Wet Leg, Harry Styles and Sam Fender.

“We all made incredible albums,” she said on stage. “We all changed people’s lives with our music, and that’s the most important thing.”
