Nigeria’s U-17 Women’s football team, the Flamingoes, reached the semi-finals of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup for the first time in the history of the competition, prevailing on penalties against a resilient USA team.
Omamuzo Edafe opened the scoring for the Flamingos in the first half from the penalty spot.

However, Amalia Villarreal’s deflected strike put the Americans level five minutes before the halftime break.
The match finished 1-1 in regulation time after a few chances from both sides, with the game going straight into penalties.
The Flamingos won 4-3 on penalties, beating the USA to qualify for its first-ever World Cup semi-final.
