A Chartered Accountant and Author, Ifeanyi Bright Osagbobu has called on Nigerians to learn entrepreneurial skills in order to create employment.
Osagbobu who made the call at the launch of two business training books in Abuja noted that acquiring entrepreneurial skills would help Nigerians understand how best to run and grow micro, small and medium enterprises in the country.
SMEs contribute 48% of national GDP, and account for 96% of businesses and 84% of employment on Nigeria.
The books titled, “Basic Business, Book keeping, Accounts and Taxation’’ and “Business Development and Growth Drivers’’ explore various strategies which MSMEs can employ to scale up their businesses, while curbing unemployment rate in the country.
Osagbobu who is the author of both books said “with the present economic situation in the country, we all need to have our own business as white-collar jobs are increasingly becoming hard to get.”
He explained that people need steady sources of income but often lack adequate knowledge or skills to create employment for themselves.
“This is why these books are timely as they bring to the fore, the in-depth knowledge that Nigerians need to establish and run a business in the country.”
He also called on businesses to ensure they learn about taxation and why it is relevant to pay taxes in order to grow the economy and develop the country.
“The first book is aimed at teaching the need for everyone to have a business and make some money and how to do it through its models. The second book is aimed at how to grow the business’’.
‘’When you apply the models in this book, there will be production and productivity. The book is about making money and making money for the government through taxes.
The chairman of the occasion, Abdulahi Sulaiman who is also a Chartered Accountant said most corporate organisations are facing challenges of adequate management, adding that the book would serve as a guide for them.
‘’These challenges revolve around corporate management of their businesses. Because we are in the part of enabling the good governance of most of these organizations, we feel that ideas coming from us as practitioners, accountants, auditors, tax experts will be a bailout for corporate survival in this country’’.
‘’Many people start businesses and after a few years the businesses collapse because something has been wrong fundamentally with the corporate management of such organisations’’.
This book is going to help many businesses succeed and have a longtime survival. This book launch is for us to create awareness and to let people know that some ideas are contained in this book and if you practice them you are likely to be more successful’’, Sulaiman added.
