The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State says the repeat of its primaries for the Kaduna central senatorial seat followed due process and all contestants were carried along in consideration with prevailing court verdict and the party constitution.

The State Chairman of the party, Mr. Hassan Hyet said the clarification became necessary to dispel the rumor making the rounds that the party rushed into conducting the senatorial primary despite being given fourteen days to that effect.

According to him, both contenders in the initial primaries conducted in April were given an opportunity by the court to settle the issue amicably. The party at the national level also invited all major stakeholders who converged for the settlement in Abuja, but the winner of the first primaries Mr. Lawal Adamu failed to appear.

The Chairman explained that the rescheduled election was held a week after the court judgment because Mr. Lawal Adamu could not secure a stay of action at the court and for fear of losing a candidate in the zone, the party decided to go ahead with the rescheduled primary.

’’The emergence of a winner at the recent primary election conducted does not stop any court proceedings and the court decision will supersede all other processes’’. Hyet said.

The party chairman, therefore, called for calm among its members noting that, the party at the national and state levels were working together to unite all interested parties toward victory in the 2023 general election.
