Ivory Coast has notified the UN that it will withdraw its military and police contingent from the international peacekeeping force in Mali.

It said the withdrawal would be gradual and take effect by August 2023.

Report says the two countries have been at loggerheads after Mali detained almost 50 Ivorian soldiers in July, accusing them of being mercenaries.

Several other countries have also withdrawn their forces from Mali following two military coups and the junta’s growing ties with the Russian mercenary force, Wagner.

Meanwhile, the UK said it would pull out its 300-strong contingents from the UN force. France has also recently ended its mission in Mali
