The Anambra state Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Special Marshals, Mr Patrick Chukwudi says speed violations, wrongful overtaking and expired tires were major causes of road traffic crashes.

He stated this during a prayer service in commemoration of the 2022 African Road Safety Day and World Day of Remembrance of Victims of Road Traffic Crashes in the state.

Chukwudi insisted that most crashes were avoidable if only motorists obey traffic rules and regulations, and prayed to God to console the families of those who lost their loved ones as a result of road traffic crashes.

The FRSC Acting Corps Marshal, Mr Dauda Biu beckoned on all road users to desist from actions that are inimical to the safety of others.

Mr Biu in an address read by the Sector Commander, FRSC Anambra State Command, Mr Adeoye Irelewuyi pointed out that road traffic crashes are undoubtedly one of the greatest threats to humanity all over the world and particularly to the African continent as it claims lives and properties daily, leaving behind great sorrows and burdens to the victims and their loved ones.

The Theme for this year’s World Day of Remembrance of Victims of Road Traffic Crashes is “Justice” with the slogan “Remember, Support And Act” focusing on ensuring justice and succour for victims of road traffic crashes and their families.

Prayers for the victims and families of the road crash victims and for officers of the FRSC and thanksgiving formed the high points of the remembrance service.
