Kano State: 1 Million-man PVC March draws mammoth Crowd

Major streets in the metropolitan areas of the ancient commercial city of Kano state, North-west Nigeria, witnessed an unprecedented crowd with heavy traffic jam on Sunday, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) held a 1 million-man Permanent Voters Card (PVC) march for members.

The march was held in support of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC’s presidential candidate for the 2023 election.

The march was scheduled to commence by 2 p.m local time as contained in an earlier press release by the coordinator, North-West Zone of the Tinubu Support Group Council, Bappa Babba Dan Agundi.

However, Voice of Nigeria’s correspondent, Jack Acheme, observed that a sea of supporters – men and women from the 44 Local Government Areas of the state –  dressed in various attires with caps to match and carrying placards started trooping to the foyer at the Emir’s place, the starting point of the march, as early as 6 a.m local time.

Security operatives took positions across the city and diverted traffic to ease the logjam as well as protect lives and properties.

Some of the placards in English and the local Hausa language read “Tinubu Pay Back Time”,  “2023: Tinubu is the Winner”, “APC Adilchi, 2023 Tinubu Inshallah”, etc.

 

Music rent the air amidst dances and display by bike and horse riders as the procession, which included Seyi Ahmed Tinubu, the first son of the APC presidential flag bearer, commenced from the Emir’s palace through the State Road to the Kano State Government House.

At the Kano State Government House, the crowd was received with cheers by the State Governor, Dr. Umar Ganduje, and other dignitaries before proceeding to the Race Course, where speeches were made.

Governor Ganduje at the Race Course assured that, with the mammoth crowd that attended the march, Tinubu would surely win Kano state 100 per cent come 2023 presidential election.

He said the march was organized by the 2,000 different Tinubu support groups, which is just an arm of the campaign structure, stressing that the March covered a span of 20 kilometres with the turnout of the crowd amounting to 3 million instead of the projected 1 million.

“With what we are witnessing here today,  Kano state is 100 per cent for Tinubu. 

“I assure you: Tinubu will become the president of Nigeria in 2023 inshallah (by God’s grace).

“Our party is solid and strong. We are united.

“There is no conflict or discrepancy among us, no fighting, no quarreling. We have indeed completed all arrangements for a victorious, free and fair election.

“We are at peace with all political parties/oppositions in the state to ensure a free and fair election. I will soon invite them for a dinner.

“I thank you all for raising your PVCs during the march,” said Ganduje.

 

The Kano state deputy Governor, who is also the APC’s Governorship candidate in the state, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, urged the crowd to maintain the tempo and come out enmasse during the 2023 elections to vote the party to victory.

“As you have demonstrated today, I hope you will come out during the election to vote so that APC will win bottom to the top and top to bottom in the 2023 elections,” he said.

House Majority leader, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, also declared the unflinching support of the members of the National Assembly for the cause of Tinubu winning the presidential election and all other elective positions in Kano state in the 2023 elections.

The procession programmed for 4 hours lasted almost the whole day to late evening.
