USAID Trains 5,125 Health Workers in Ebonyi State

The United States Agency for International Development, USAID-Integrated Health Program, IHP has collaborated with the Ebonyi State Ministry of Health to train 5,125 health workers across the 13 Local Government Areas, LGAs of Ebonyi State.

This is in a bid to improve on Healthcare Delivery in Ebonyi State Southeast Nigeria.

The programme targets I71 LGA Ward focal person; 130 LGA program officers; 536 health facility officers in charge; and 4,288 health workers to support services provision across the LGAs.

The USAID-IHP Knowledge Management Specialist, Mr Uche Anoke said between the 21st to 26th of November 2022, USAID’s Integrated Health Program IHP, in collaboration with the National Primary Health Care Development Agency NPHCDA, State Primary Health Care Development Agencies, and State Ministries of Health, implemented the 2022 Maternal,  Newborn and Child Health Week MNCHW through school outreach services to improve access and quality of health services for 34,748 children in Ebonyi State.

According to him, “Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health Week is designed to provide an integrated package of highly cost-effective and curative treatments and interventions, such as perinatal care, in order to boost routine PHC Primary Health Care PHC services.”

The Zonal Technical Officer of NPHDA, Mrs Sarah Ohuche said  this activity was a one-time delivery mechanism that consolidates services that are likely to immediately demonstrate impact in terms of significantly increasing coverage levels of core preventive and curative interventions that can improve the health of mothers and children.

“IHP carried out school outreach to 249 nursery and primary schools  across the LGAs where they provided  growth monitoring services, measurement of weight, height and administration of Vitamin A and Albendazole for eligible children under the age of five during the MNCH Week where 34,748 children were reached,” Ohuche stated.

She informed that IHP would continue to strengthen health care system and improve access and quality of health services which has led to the decrease in maternal and child morbidity and mortality in the State.
