The Nigerian senate has passed a Bill seeking to establish a monitoring council on the Administration of criminal justice in the country.

The Bill was read for the third time and passed, following consideration of the report of the senate committee on judiciary human rights and legal matters, focusing on amendment of the principal Act.

According to the report, the major amendment to the original Legislation is to provide for a monitoring council on criminal justice administration, as against the existing nomenclature of a committee.

The Chairman of the committee on judiciary human rights and legal matters, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele believes that the new amendment would ensure a more effective administration of criminal justice in Nigeria.
