The Executive Governor of Kogi State, north-central region, Nigeria Alhaji Yahaya Bello has presented over N172 Billion budget before the Kogi State legislative chamber.
The budget tagged “budget of transformation” was presented at the Speaker’s lodge, a temporary meeting venue for the legislators after a fire gut the original chambers recently.
Governor Bello declared that the 2023 budget was over N4bn higher than that of 2022 adding that the budget has a recurrent expenditure of N101 Billion while the capital expenditure amounts to over N70 billion.
He reiterated that the 2023 budget was painstakingly drafted to attract investors into the state thereby increasing the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and focusing on public-private partnerships while having at heart the completion of all ongoing projects.
Governor Bello further explained that on 30th September 2022, 65bn was collected out of the approved recurrent revenue of over N130billion which represent 57.81%.
He said: “The 2023-2025 multi-year budget, which is premised on zero-based budgeting principles is tailored towards the actualization of the state development plan”.
He sympathized with the house on the unfortunate incidence of fire at the legislative chamber and promised to rebuild without any delay.
The speaker Kogi State house of assembly, Mathew Kolawole on his part commended the state government for using the state’s resources wisely. He thanked the governor for a well-drafted people’s oriented budget and assured speedy passage of the 2023 draft budget.
