Abuja Job fair opens employment opportunities for Young Nigerians

SOS Children’s Villages has held a job fair targeting Young Nigerians for employment in Abuja.

Tagged ‘The Next Economy Abuja Job Fair and Stake Holders Forum,’ the job fair was sponsored by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with Kaneng Rwang Pam Foundation for Education and Migration Awareness.

Speaking with VON at the event, Kaneng Rwang-Pam, Executive Director & Team Lead The KRP Foundation for Education & Migration Awareness (KRP FEMA), said it was an opportunity for organizations to access affordable human resources – a valuable contribution to Nigeria and Africa’s next economy.

She noted that KRP’s major objective is to curb irregular migration; a term wrongly referred to as Illegal migration, among Nigerian Youths especially graduates.

“The Next Economy (TNE) on its own majorly empowers youths (graduates) in Nigeria, to unleash their talents, build their confidence and hone the skills they need for a successful career in a job or as an entrepreneur.

“The Attendees/participants in this job fair had been offered several months of retraining  by TNE in order to make them employable,” she said.

“These youths learn life core skills such as Organizational Culture, Corporate Ethics, Presentation Skills, Digital Skills and so much more. The job fair therefore benefits both organizations and these trained job seekers as there are organizations who cannot afford to increase their human resource base. The Next Economy Programme/Training provides organizations such as these with an endless supply of employable graduates,” Kaneng said.

Process & Benefits

The Job fair serves as a fresh conduit for producing quality manpower to fit into the emerging global economy.

The re-trained graduates are almost free to the organizations for the first few months.

Indeed, the graduates are provided with transportation allowance for a period of three months, c0urtsey the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs via SOS.

“In fact, it is a win-win situation for everyone as these retrained graduates come from different educational qualifications, some from Mass communication, Law, Health and so many others,” Kaneng posited.

“Several organizations from all over Nigeria were in attendance at the 2022 Abuja SOS Next economy Job Fair in hopes of recruiting re-skilled graduate professionals.”

Grace Ojoma, who is a beneficiary of the TNE program and was present at the Job Fair and Stake Holders Forum, described the event as a life-changing one.

“Well, today I’m at the Stake Holders Forum, hoping a hundred percent that I will find an employer who would see what I have to offer and employ me”.

Another attendee, Okwu Gift said she was optimistic of gaining new skills set.

“I chose The Next Economy training because as a young graduate I am in search of skills that can make me employable. This Programme taught me a lot about myself and I encourage others to participate in it.”

The Dutch Ministry of Foreign affairs supported these graduates that attend the Program with transportation stipend, and sometimes data and Lunch.

This internship will last for six to seven months.

The program is completely free as the attendees pay nothing for it.
