Lutheran University Nigeria To Launch Early Next year

The Archbishop of the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria also known as the President Lutheran World Federation, Most Rev. Musa Filibus, has proposed the launch of Lutheran University Nigeria as a way to complement the efforts of the government to provide tertiary education.

He made this known at a groundbreaking/foundation laying ceremony of the University in Demsa Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

He said the University when it eventually takes off next year will be a major player in global higher education, equipping particularly young people in the face of toughest challenges in generations.

“As you witness this groundbreaking and foundation laying, I am delighted to inform you that the initial start-off point of LUN here at its permanent site in Demsa will comprise about three faculties with minimum of fifteen programmes” , he said.

The foundation laying act consolidated the progress so far made on the establishment of the university and in furtherance and preparatory to the first anticipated visit of the team from the National Universities Commission, (NUC) to assess the readiness of the church in establishing Lutheran University Nigeria and subsequent approval and licensing of the university.

The University is set to take off in the first quarter of next year with the groundbreaking ceremony already being done.

Governor of Adamawa State, Amadu Fintiri while laying the foundation at the groundbreaking of the University pledged maximum support for the success of the University which is in line with the eleven-point of his government agenda to make education a major priority in the state.

Also, the Gombe State Deputy Governor, Manasseh Daniel Jatau who also threw his weight for the success of the University said it is the first of its kind in North Eastern Nigeria and will serve its purpose.

Dignitaries at the event include top Government officials at the Federal and State levels, religious leaders, and all the traditional rulers under the Numan Federation in Adamawa State, Northeastern Nigeria.
