The Gombe State Police Command has confirmed an attack on the campaign office of the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) governorship candidate for the 2023 election in Gombe state, Mr. Muhammad Hibrin Barde.
The Commissioner of Police, Gombe State Command, Mr. Etim Oqua, told journalists that the act was carried out by suspected thugs.
“You have seen the pictures; yes, the attack happened and we will get full details before going public.
“We have started investigation because the attack happened in the night and it is too early to give details now.
“So just give me a little more time and we will get you the details,” said CP Etim.
He, however, appealed to political stakeholders to guard the peace in the state and not create tension while carrying out their political activities.
Mr. Etim also advised youths in the state to shun any acts that could breach peace, law and order in the north-eastern state, saying the police will not tolerate any acts that would breach peace of the state.
The suspected thugs burnt campaign billboards within the office complex of Mr. Barde’s campaign office in the early hours of Monday.
