A Nigerian Female hunter Aisha Bakari has been appointed as the Commandant, Directorate of Hunting and Forestry of the Nigerian Hunter and Forest Security Service NHFSS.

Mrs Bakari, a mother, also known as “Sarauniya Baka” is popular for hunting down Boko Haram insurgents in the North east of Nigeria.

The Commander General of NHFSS, Dr Joshua Osatimehin in an interview with Voice of Nigeria shortly after the presentation of the appointment letter, said that her resilience and years of contribution in the fight against insurgency is recognized and acknowledged.

Dr Osatimehin noted that the appointment would further give her legal backing in executing her duties.

Aisha Bakari is one of the most popular hunter in the whole of Africa and not just Nigeria. She has done well and is still doing very well. So with this appointment, we should expect more work and more strategies from her to be hunting more criminal in the forest. Strategically, we have to look at the person that have the capability,” he said.

The Commandant General restated that the NHFSS is in good synergy with the other security agents as they undergo series of training from almost all the security agencies.

He thereby urged the Nigerian government to support the NHFSS in the areas of logistics and further called on President Muhammadu Buhari to accent to the Bill that has been passed to law by the National Assembly.

It has undergone eight legislative processes. Four from the Senate, four from the House of representatives and clause by clause consideration. it was endorsed into law. We want quick accent by Mr President for our bill to be accented to. That will give us a legal framework to operate. This year alone we have lost over 100 officers, because we are not armed. If we face these miscreants, we are being challenged. they have sophisticated weapons, we are only allowed to go around with dane guns. If government comes to our aid, it will boost our mode of operation and the best will come out of hunters,” he said.

Appreciating the NHFSS for the confidence reposed in her, Mrs Bakari said that her zeal for the job is as a result of her concern for women and children who remain the major victims of insurgents.

As a woman, it pains me alot the manner in which females and children are being harassed. This has been very disturbing for me, and is forcing children in to bad condition, some in to begging, some become thieves and all not by their wish but due to lack of peace. Their parents have been having unrest. How could they have been able to raise them into being good children without peace of mind. Therefore, these are the kind of things that pushed me in to ensuring that I contribute my quarter in ensuring peace for our country and for our children to have better life,” she said.

As she appreciates the efforts of the Nigerian armed forces, she also called on women to contribute their quota in the fight against terrorism saying that whatever can be achieved by a man can also be achieved by a woman.

Our Nigerian Armies are trying their best in ensuring that they keep on to their duties and I can testify to that personally. But things are still getting worse and that’s why we see the need to join hands with them to contribute our own quota because the country belongs to all of us,” he said.

He urged all to collectively work to see to the achievement of the laid down goals.
