NGX Equities Gain 0.2%

The Nigerian equities market began this week’s trading activities on a positive note with the benchmark index closing 0.2% or 98.67 basis points higher, to settle at 49,414.96 basis points compared to Friday’s 49,316.29 basis points.
Likewise, the market Capitalisation gained ₦54bn or 0.2% to close at ₦26,915trn compared to Friday’s ₦26,861trn.
The positive performance was influenced by buying interests in BUA FOODS PLC (+2.52%), GUARANTY TRUST HOLDING COMPANY PLC(+3.35%) ACCESS HOLDINGS PLC (+1.18%) and UNITED BANK FOR AFRICA PLC (+0.68%) which outweighed losses in ZENITH BANK PLC (-0.41%) and FBN HOLDINGS PLC (-0.46%).
Analysis of today’s market activities showed that a total of 76.75 million units of shares valued at ₦1.33 billion were exchanged in 3,262 deals.
GUARANTY TRUST HOLDING COMPANY PLC led the volume and value charts with 16.61m units traded in deals worth ₦352.21million, respectively.
As measured by market breadth, market sentiment was positive with 13 advancing issues outnumbering 10 declining ones.
Topping the gainers’ list is THOMAS WYATT NIG. PLC with an opening selling price of 0.57k per share to close at 0.62k per share, gaining 0.05k or 8.77%.
Next is INTERNATIONAL BREWERIES PLC which commenced today’s trading at ₦4.30k per share and closed at ₦4.55k per share, gaining 0.25k or 5.81%.
Followed by PHARMA-DEKO PLC taking off the day’s activities at ₦2.00 per share and closing at ₦2.10k per share, gaining 0.10k or 5.00%.
While recording the highest losses of the day are; P Z CUSSONS NIGERIA PLC opened at ₦12.40k per share but dropped down to ₦11.50k per share, losing 0.90k or 7.26%.
Then CHAMS HOLDING COMPANY PLC trailed with 0.23k per share as the opening selling price but ended the day at 0.22k per share, shedding off 0.01k or 4.35%.
And UPDC REAL ESTATE INVESTMENT TRUST fell 0.10k or 3.33% to close at ₦2.90k per share as against previous ₦3.00 per share.
Sectoral performance was mixed, as the Consumer Goods (+1.0%), and Banking (+0.7%) indices advanced, while the Industrial Goods and Oil & Gas indices closed flat. The Insurance (-0.1%) index was the sole loser of the day.
