The Senate confirmed thirteen out of the fifteen members of the Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC, while two nominees were rejected for failing to appear before the senate screening committee.
The two nominees whose appointments were rejected are Dr. Pius Odudu who hails from Edo state and was nominated to represent the south-south region, and his counterpart, Engineer Anthony Okanne from Imo state, who was nominated to represent the south-East region.
Among the 13 nominees whose appointments were confirmed include, the Chairman, Mrs. Lauretta Onochie from Delta state, while the Managing Director is Chief Samuel Ogbuku who hails from Bayelsa state. Others are, Major General Charles Airhiavbere from Edo state, who is to serve as the Executive Director of finance, while the Executive Director in charge of projects is Mr. Charles Ogunmola from Ondo state.
Other confirmed nominees are Dimgba Erugba (Abia State representative), Dr. Emem Wilcos Wills (Akwa Ibom State), and Hon. Orok Duke (Cross River), Hon. Gbenga Edema (Ondo) and Elekwachi Dinkpa (Rivers).
The rest are zonal representatives starting with Alhaji Mohammed Kabir Abubakar (North Central zonal representative), Alhaji Sule-Iko Sani (North West), and Prof. Tahir Mamman SAN (North East).
Meanwhile, President of the Senate Ahmad Lawan has urged the Federal government to submit to the senate, the report of the forensic audit conducted on the NDDC following the management crisis that rocked the interventionist institution.
