By Eme Offiong, Calabar
The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has sued for peace amongst aggrieved members of the party in the south-south zone of Nigeria.
Tinubu made the appeal when he publicly mediated the feud between the Cross River State APC governorship candidate, Senator Bassey Otu and former gubernatorial aspirant Senator John-Owan Enoh, who instituted legal battle challenging the candidacy of Otu at the primary election in May, 2022.
He also openly appealed to another aggrieved aspirant for the seat of the central senatorial district in Cross River State, Mrs. Mary Ekpere to withdraw and end every legal proceedings against the winner of the ticket, Mr. William Eteng, the current speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly.
He said to the former aspirant, “Senator John-Owan Enoh, no matter what you are bound to be disappointed as far as you are human. But, please, withdraw your law suit.
“This should have been the end of my speech, seeing these two deflate the balloon of anger and get back together. We are at some point disappointed by things and people, but division, anger or breaking apart will not solve Nigeria’s problems. We can only do so by building a team of intellectuals, visioners and great thinkers that we can build a great Nigeria,” he stressed.
The APC presidential candidate commended the Cross River State governor, Professor Ben Ayade and the organisers of the town hall for the rousing welcome accorded him and his running mate, Kashim Shettima and other stakeholders in the region.
Capacity to Transform
On critical matters affecting the south-south zone, Tinubu noted that education was a great tool for tackling poverty and repositioning the nation.
He further described himself as “a forward front wheel driver; and driving Nigeria forward is the only reason I am running for president. I have facts, I have records and the pedigree and I keep my promises. They cannot distract me because I am a wrestler, but I do not wrestle with pigs.”
“Nigeria is a talented country; God has blessed this country with people of great minds and thinkers that can make the nation better. The United States of America fought a civil war and at the same time feeding themselves. Let us conquer hunger, let us come together and make great wealth using our God-given space.
“We are our own problems. We fight each other, we break the pipelines and spill the oils and poison all our means of livelihood. Our people are our own enemy.
“We have the ability to think and transform and make our nation viable. Nigeria has the resources and beckons on all to be inspired and change its fortune. I urge you all to work with your governors to make your states great,” he urged.
Continuing he said to the people of the south-south, “we can mechanize our farms; build capacity to develop good and great things. We will keep our promises to you and we will work with you to bring prosperity. Being the majority, APC will beat them silly,” he stated.
Earlier, the Director General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State commended the people for the entertaining welcome, which he noted was a confirmation of acceptance for Tinubu -Shettima candidacy.
