The New Nigeria People’s Party in Nasarawa State has promised to upgrade the traditional rulers’ status in the state if elected in the next general election.

The gubernatorial candidate of the NNPP, Abdullahi Maidoya, stated this when paying homage to the traditional ruler Abahga Toni, in continuation of its campaign, rally in the Kokona Local Government area of the state.

He said that the traditional rulers were the peacemakers of the community and need to be properly placed where they belong as the guardians of the community and society at large.

If elected, we are going to bring a new community committee program in such a way that the leadership of this community committee program would lead by the traditional ruler from the ward level to the national level.

This program aims to bring back the value, dignity, and importance of the traditional ruler within the community,” he said.

He said he would provide a law that would promote the traditional ruler role in the society and help them to gain back their recognition in the society and community.

He further promised to provide more dividends of democracy in the state.

Responding, the traditional ruler of Kokona LGA, Abahga Toni, Mr. Lawrence Silvester-Ayih, said that leadership is from God, and one should seek leadership from God before looking for human beings.

He however urged the politicians to move away from the politics of bitterness, insult, and blasphemy, politics should be played like brothers not like enemies.

Since the interest of the people is at hand, what would you bring to the table, since you’ve seen some loophole, that is why you want to run for the position, you should therefore look at the people’s interest and make it right.”

” If you’re at the helm of the affairs and you lead well, your good deeds would continue to follow you where ever you go,” Abahga Toni said.

He further urged the followers to follow their leaders with clean hearts, saying that leadership is not easy but also easy depending on how you lead the masses.
