Kogi Internal Revenue Service Implements Backlog Of Staff Promotions
By Ishaq Dan-Imam, Lokoja
The Executive Chairman of Kogi State Internal Revenue Service (KGIRS), Alhaji Sule Salihu Enehe says the staff of the service will be fully paid their arrears of promotions in the month of April 2023.
This follows years of agitation by the workers of the state revenue agency.
Enehe said the workers will start enjoying their promotion benefits and urged them to be committed to their job.
Enehe announced this during an interactive session with Journalists on the confirmation of his appointment as substantive chairman of the state revenue agency.
Enehe had served the organization in an Acting capacity until his elevation as the substantive Executive Chairman of KGIRS by the State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello.
He pointed out that in the last six years, staff promotion had not been implemented with a backlog of promotions causing stagnation in the organization.
He added that the desired performance can not be achieved with a demoralized workforce as staff promotions and other welfare were not given due consideration by previous Heads of the state revenue agency.
“There is no way any staff can put his best when he is not happy with himself and the job he does. The only way you can display your creativity is when you are happy.
“We have created a conducive working environment in all our offices across the state. It is a fact that in the last six years, the staff of KGIRS remained stagnated on a particular grade level and when God gave me the opportunity through His Excellency Governor Yahaya Bello to become the head of this organization, I vowed to change the narrative.
“Promotion examination has been carried out and right now oral interview is ongoing in the service to enable every staff benefit from the promotion exercise.
“By the special grace of God, by the end of March 2023 all the exercise will be concluded and by April, the staff of KGIRS will start receiving their letter of promotion and the benefits of the promotion will commence immediately,” he said.
The Chairman disclosed that the Service intends to bring in more persons into the tax net, pointing out that many businesses are yet to be captured, leading to loss of revenue.
He added that with the motivation of the staff, more commitment is expected.
He commended the Governor for finding him worthy of the confirmation and thanked the management and staff for their cooperation and dedication to duty, adding that it will spur the service to deliver on its mandate.
