One Thousand Nine Hundred and Seventy-seven officers of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC have been deployed to Anambra State for the Gubernatorial and House of Assembly elections in Anambra State.
The State Commandant of NSCDC, Mr. Isidore Chikere urged the officers to maintain political neutrality and avoid any act capable of betraying their professional call.
In a statement released by the Commission’s Public Relations Officer, DSC Okadigbo Edwin, the state commandant also urged them to be mindful of their actions and be guided by provisions of Electoral Act of 2022.
He advised them to prioritise their personal safety in the performance of duty.
Chikere reminded the officers and men that beyond securing the public space during the electoral process, they are ”to ensure orderliness in all the polling units ( PUs) spread over the 21Local Government Area of the state.”
He said; ”I have assembled you here to remind you of what is expected of you during the forthcoming election. You are expected to be objective, liberal, firm and non- partisan in the discharge of your duty. You shall be utilised to protect the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC personnel, materials, facilities and the electorates. I need to warn again that the Corps will not hesitate to investigate and necessary sanctions meted out on any erring personnel found to have deviated from election duty.”
Calling on eligible voters to be law abiding and conduct themselves in a peaceful manner, the NSCDC State Command boss appealed to residents of the state to cooperate and support the NSCDC as well as other security agencies towards peaceful and credible elections.
