The All Progressives Congress (APC), Nasarawa State Chapter, has advised the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to seek redress in the court of law, if dissatisfied with the outcome of the governorship election in the state.

In a statement signed by the APC spokesman, Douglas Otaru, and made available to journalists in Lafia, the state capital, the APC noted that there were legitimate windows of opportunities available to the PDP to seek redress, rather than taking to the streets in nudity to protest the outcome of an election that is acclaimed fair and credible.

It would be recalled that on Friday, 24th March 2023 some women in Akwanga local government area of Nasarawa State had stripped themselves half-naked to protest the outcome of the 18th March 2023 governorship election in the state, which was alleged to have been rigged.

The women, who were dressed in black, had placards with different inscriptions, claiming their mandate was stolen and their votes must count.

They equally insisted that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) revert the result of the governorship in Nasarawa State in the interest of peace.

“It is most unfortunate, despicable, odious and an unpatriotic act  for the opposition PDP to condone acts that are uncivilized in the modern society.

“The ruling APC maintained a noteworthy silence while she watched the disgusting melodrama of the opposition PDP, since after their loss at the recently concluded general elections, which produced His Excellency Governor Abdullahi A. Sule as the winner of the election.

“To us in the APC, the stage-managed, embarrassing carnival of nudity is a charade, show of shame and worthless debasement of our women who were brainwashed with peanuts to demonstrate the most expensive, immoral and blasphemous desecration of their bodies, which supposedly should be the temple of their Creator,” said the APC spokesman.

The statement maintained that although the party was not averse to protest in any form of civil pursuits, it added that such desperation, as demonstrated by the PDP, is uncultured and alien to any known democratic norms and processes and should be condemned in its totality.

We are not oblivious of the antics of the opposition aimed at scuttling the peace and security of the state that the Governor Sule-led administration has sustained over the years.

“Further to that, we could see their desperate attempt to whip up  sentiments all in an attempt to discredit the entire electoral process, which has been adjudged the freest and fairest contest ever in the history of the country.

“We have maintained this long golden silence in the APC to the fact that we must continue to maintain law and order, protect lives and property across divides and, therefore, shouldn’t be seen joining frays on issues with the weeping PDP,” the statement further read.

Otaru declared that the ruling APC in Nasarawa State will continue to refrain from any counter-action capable of causing the breakdown of law and order, stating that where such olive branch is taken for granted, the party will be forced not to tolerate any form of harassment or intimidation of the citizens of the state by the opposition party.

The statement called on all well-meaning citizens of the state to eschew hate, avoid violence and maintain love for one another as they go about their normal businesses.

Bear in mind that we are one indivisible people with lots of growth opportunities. It is only in peace and unity that we shall triumph,” the statement added.
