Kano State Governor-elect Gets Certificate of Return, Promises Infrastructure Revival

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has issued Certificates of Return to the new Governor-elect of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, and his deputy, both of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), following their victory in the just concluded 18th March 2023 Gubernatorial/ State Assembly Polls.

All the twenty-six (26) Kano State House of Assembly members elected were also given their Certificates of Return by the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Ambassador Abdul Zango.

The event was held at the Conference Hall of INEC, Kano State Chapter.

The Certificates of Return were presented by the Honourable National Commissioner in charge of Kano, Jigawa and Katsina States, Professor Abdulahi Zuru.

Governor-elect Abba, in his acceptance speech, promised to use democratic tenets to revive all sectors in Kano State, especially infrastructures in order for the people to enjoy the dividends of democracy.

He said, the party recognized the challenges ahead and will do everything possible to surmount them:

“The state needs rival in agriculture, education, health, commerce, industry, security and environment,including water challenges.

“I will remove all drug addicts from the streets of Kano, rehabilitate them and give them new lease of life, especially jobs.”

He commended the people for giving him the mandate to serve.

“I thank all those who have bestowed to me this great opportunity and trust.

“I recognize the youths, women and elders who deployed their time for the election, as the success couldn’t have been achieved without you. 

“Despite intrigues, the success story is that ‘Abba Gida Gida’ is now the governor of Kano State. It is an indication that God is on our side.

“I will give you maximum cooperation as I serve you and also set new agenda,” he said.

Abba called on the gubernatorial candidates, who contested the election with him, to put the excercise behind them and work towards a new Kano State, describing his win as a victory for all:

“I’m extending my hands of fellowship to all contestants in the election.

“As far as I’m concerned, there is no victor, no vanquished in the election. So let’s come together for the interest of Kano State and Nigeria at large.”

He also called on all security agencies in the state to give him maximum support while remaining apolitical.

He commended the media for the nuetral role played during politicking before, during and after the election.
