Gombe State Governor, 25 Others Get Certificates Of Return

The Gombe State Governor-elect, Muhammad Yahaya and Deputy-elect, Manassah Jatau have received their Certificates of Return, along with 24 members of the State House of Assembly.

The Certificates were presented to them by the National Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in charge of Adamawa, Gombe and Taraba State, Dr Baba Bila.

The State Resident Electoral Commissioner and the INEC Administrative Secretary were also present at the event.

The members of the Gombe House of Assembly comprise 20 members of the All Progressives Congress, APC and four others from the opposition People’s Democratic Party, PDP.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Gombe State, Mr Umar Ibrahim, congratulated the Governor-elect and his deputy as well as the members of the Gombe State House of Assembly.

Mr Ibrahim urged them “to see their election as an indication of the confidence their people and their constituents had in them.”

He thanked all stakeholders, especially the Interagency Consultative Committee on Election Security for their efforts to ensure that elections took place without any hitches. He also encouraged those “elected to use the opportunity given as a debt to repay by giving back to them the dividends of democracy.”

The State Governor, Muhammad Yahaya, who has been re-elected for the second term in office, thanked all stakeholders for the efforts they put into ensuring free, fair, peaceful and credible polls in the state.

Governor Yahaya said; “the Certificate of Return, which he had received was a booster for him and his team to continue to do more for the dividends of democracy to be delivered to the people of the state, which according to him “will be widely needed in the country.”

He called on those he contested with to join hands with him to develop the state.

The Governor said; “I urge those that contested in the election in the state that for us, there is no victor, there is no vanquish; we are all Gombe people and we shall jointly work to carry the hands of the losers if there is any to move forward and take Gombe State to the next level.” 

The Governorship and House of Assembly elections was held on March 18th, 2023.
