Tech Economy: Nigeria to host first African Space Economy by October

Nigeria is to host the first African Space Economy conference and exhibition from the 16th to the 20th of October 2023.

The maiden conference is organised by the National Space Research and Development Agency NASRDA under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation. The exhibition is in partnership with Abuja Chambers of Commerce and Industry ACCI, as well as MEDIAVIVAL Limited.

Singing the contractual agreement in Abuja Nigeria’s Capital, the Director General National Space Research and Development Agency NASRDA Dr Halilu Shaba described it as a unique project that will benefit the African continent.

Halilu noted that “a lot of African science and technology players will be in Nigeria to explore opportunities in the large space economy for the overall development of the region.”

The NASRDA DG explained that the space economy conference is significant because the world is going to space and Nigeria will not be the last.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

He added that “We believe that, where we are matching to, we will surely lead Africans to where they will benefit from space.”

Also, the President of Abuja Chambers of Commerce and Industry Dr Almujtaba Gumi said, the Conference is designed to have a sectoral approach that will address the real developmental issues in Nigeria and Africa in a way that will positively impact governance and livelihoods.

The conference he added will cover, communication, security, Health, Agriculture and security among others.

Gumi said, “Space economy, as an emerging sub-sector of global space ecosystem denotes and captures the economic benefits of a dynamic space sector and the role space, can play in the socio-economic development of human society.”

Also speaking, the Managing Director of MEDIAVIVAL Limited Israel Edjeren whose company is serving as an operational and marketing in the planning and hosting of the event said, Nigeria and Africa can take advantage of the technology exhibition to explore its potential to advance many discoveries.

The theme for the first African Space Economy conference and exhibition is ‘exploring space economy for Africa’s economic growth’.
