Presidential Election Petition Tribunal Resumes Pre-hearing on Wednesday 

The Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) will resume today Wednesday in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, to continue the pre-hearing petition by the Labour Party presidential aspirant, Mr. Peter Obi.

Obi is challenging the declaration of President-elect Ahmed Tinubu by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as winner of the 2023 Presidential Election

At the last adjourned pre-hearing date May 10, Counsel to Peter Obi, Dr. Livy Uzoukwu SAN, informed the Election Petition Court that he agreed with all counsels to the first and fourth respondents that the pre-hearing be adjourned to Wednesday 17, to allow all outstanding processes be exchanged and served for hearing.

Counsel to the INEC, Abubakar Mahmood SAN; Woke Olanipekum SAN for Tinubu and Shetima; and Lateef Fagbemi for the All Progressives Congress (APC) confirmed to the court their unanimous agreement for the exchange of necessary replies to be ready for adoption in the next pre-hearing date.

The presiding Judge of the Presidential Election Petition Court, Justice Haruna Tsamani, while adjourning to May 17, had directed all the counsels to ensure they streamline issues to be determined before the next pre-hearing date.

Meanwhile, the petition filed by the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, will be heard on Thursday, 18 May, 2023.
