The wife of Anambra State Governor, Mrs Nonye Soludo said the precarious state of the present society shows that children are in dire need of better mentors, protection and safer homes to be able to achieve their goals in life.

Mrs Soludo made this known in Awka, the State capital in a statement released to mark the 2023 Children’s Day in Anambra State.

She said that society has fallen short of the demands of the right mentorship, with many homes fast losing the values of love and unity. She thus advocated for the right settings to save the future of today’s and tomorrow’s children.

Mrs Soludo described children as the light, conscience and breath of any society, stressing that they need better love, care and protection because of their vulnerability.

She decried the increasing reports of child abuse and torture in the hands of guardians, saying parents who give away their children at an age when they should still be receiving parental care, are the first culprits in the crime.

The Anambra First Lady further stated that her husband’s administration has made strategic social, education, economic and health policies that favour all Anambra children including the ongoing free rotavirus vaccination, free cleft lip and palate surgeries, rehabilitation of the 326 primary health care facilities in the state, among others.

She also noted that the recent recruitment of 5,000 teachers to cover the teachers’ deficit in Anambra classrooms and rehabilitation of schools affected by last year’s flood show commitment on the side of the government to giving every school child the best opportunity to excel.

The Anambra governor’s wife urged parents, guardians and other custodians of child development to understand the weight and significance of their responsibilities and ensure that they do them in the best interest of the future and larger society.

While congratulating Nigerian children on the special day, Mrs Soludo urged them to understand that hard work and dedication come with great rewards. She assured Anambra children that her husband’s administration will continue to make children-friendly policies.
