Children’s Day: Soludo Affirms Implementation, Protection Of Child Rights Law

Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has assured children in the state of intensified efforts in the implementation and protection of child rights law.
The Governor gave the assurance during the 2023 National Children’s Day celebration held at Dr Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, the State capital.
Soludo who spoke on issues concerning children including exam malpractice, cultism, drug abuse, child marriage, and child labour, among others, stressed that indeed, the future of a liveable and prosperous homeland belongs to the children.
He assured that Anambra is on a trajectory of a fair society where children have infinite opportunities to actualize their God-given potential and called on them to take charge and grow up as responsible children who will become global ambassadors, helping to build the dream society.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Ify Obinabo, stressed the urgent need to inculcate into the children correct and acceptable values through conscious re-orientation.
Mrs Obinabo noted that such re-orientation will equip children to become future leaders of tomorrow. She called on well-meaning Nigerians to partake in reshaping the children’s mindsets so that they can contribute to making the society a better place.
Child Rights Law
In their separate goodwill messages, Anambra State Chief Judge, Justice Onochie Anyachebelu and the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Uchenna Okafor reminded the people about the existence of Child Rights Law which has special privileges.
Both reminded the people that if someone defiles a child, life imprisonment is the sanction and called on children to remain hardworking and focused, assuring them of partnership where necessary.
The children’s day celebration featured march-past, callisthenics and acrobatic displays by the children.
The best school in the march-past received their trophy from the Governor.
The wife of the Governor, Nonye Soludo, Deputy Governor, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr Ernest Ezeajughi, members of the state executive council, members of Anambra Children’s Parliament, among others, attended the ceremony.
