KSADP, SAA begin distribution of farm inputs in Kano

The Kano State Agropastoral Development Project (KSADP) and Sasakawa Africa Association (SAA) on Saturday commenced the distribution of farm inputs worth N100 million to farmers across the 44 LGAs in the state.

Inaugurating the distribution, the country Director of Sasakawa Africa Association, (SAA) Dr Godwin Atser, said that the exercise was geared towards enhanced food production in the state .

We would continue to support government efforts to enhance agricultural productivity and competitiveness through increased access to inputs, extension service delivery, value addition, agribusiness development,” he said.

Atser said that the week long exercise would enable the inputs to get to the beneficiaries promptly and give them ample time for other essential pre-season activities like land acquisition and preparation.

He said for the crops to perform optimally, they must be planted at the right time, using the correct regenerative agriculture practice and necessary inputs.

The project Coordinator, Abdulrasheed Kofar Mata, said Sasakawa was bridging the gap by addressing most of the challenges facing smallholders in the state by strengthening agriculture extension service therough periodic distribution of improved high-yielding disease and drought resistant seed varieties.

He said that the 2023 wet season, SAA/ASADP would establish 690 clusters of demonstration plots to showcase Good Agronomic Practices (GAP) and 192 Community Based Seed Multiplication plots across the 44 LGAs, to serve as farmer learning platforms in local communities during on and off farming seasons.

The Project Coordinator acknowledged that Sasakawa had tailored improved agricultural technologies and practices to march the need of smallholder farmers in the state, through co-innovation that included knowledge packaging and adoption.

Malam Habiba Ahmed from Tudun Wada Local Government Area, lauded the efforts for the improved inputs which would go a long way in enhancing food production in the state.
