Oyo, Lagos Governors Declare Assets Ahead of Second Tenure 

The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has submitted a copy of his end-of-tenure assets declaration form and declared his assets ahead of the beginning of his second term in office.

While speaking with newsmen shortly after the submission of the form and obtaining a fresh one at the Oyo State Office of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), on Friday, ahead of his inauguration for a second term in office, Makinde noted that the details of his assets would be made known to the public through his media team soonest.

The governor, however, stated that he is poorer in terms of assets, having lost about twelve per cent of the assets he declared in 2019 when he was sworn in as the governor of Oyo State, after serving the people of the state in the last four years.

He said the reason for the loss was due to his inability to manage and focus on his businesses as a result of his managing Oyo State, affirming that despite the loss, he had no regret in serving the state.

Makinde stated: “Statutorily, you have to declare your assets on assumption of office and end of tenure. Since one tenure is ending, and by law, I have to do the declaration of assets before assuming office for the next tenure. So, I came in here to submit my end-of-tenure form for the end of tenure for first term, assets declaration and also to declare my assets at the beginning of my second tenure.

 “I believe that you are all aware of my declaration for the first tenure. I can tell you that in four years, I am poorer. I am serious because I have not had the time to look after my business, I have been looking after Oyo State business and I am not surprised that there were losses a bit here and there, but I am still okay,” he disclosed.

When asked about the percentage of loss, the governor said: “It’s about 10 to 12 per cent poorer. The details of the loss will be made available to the public in due course.”

The declaration made by the governor, at the High Court of Oyo State, on May 28, 2019, with assets declaration form OYSE/2019/001, indicated that the Governor was worth about N50 billion in assets.

Meanwhile, As Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State and Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat gear up for their inauguration on Monday, the state government says both have submitted their Asset Declaration Forms to the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).

The Media Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Gboyega Akosilen, disclosed in a statement on Saturday.

“In compliance with paragraph 11 part 1 to the 5th schedule of 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that mandates political office holders to declare their assets on assumption and at the end of their term in office, Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Dr Obafemi Hamzat on Saturday submitted their Asset Declaration Forms,” the statement reads.

“Governor Sanwo-Olu and his deputy have, by their action, satisfied section 185(1) of the same Constitution that makes it paramount for the political office holders to declare their Assets before they take the oath of office.”
