Happening Now: Presidential Inauguration Underway

Nigeria, the most populous Black nation in the world is set for the inauguration of the winner of the February 25 Presidential Election and the former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu as Nigeria’s President for the next four years.

The historic occasion is set to take place at the venue beautifully decorated called Eagle Square in Abuja, Nigeria’s Capital.

Dignitaries have begun to arrive the Eagle Square, Abuja, for the inauguration of the President-Elect, Bola Tinubu and the Vice-President-Elect, Kashim Shettima.

Early arrivals at the venue include members of the diplomatic corps, President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote and Business mogul, Femi Otedola.

Others are the Minister of Information and Culture Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Minister of Science and Technology Dr Olorunibe Mamora and Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman, of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM).

Also seated are traditional rulers, lawmakers, and representatives of various organisations, awaiting the commencement of the swearing-in.

The venue is a beehive of activities as various groups adorned in beautifully coloured attires are warming up for the event.

Meanwhile, security in and around the venue is tight, with various security agencies carrying out security checks.

The Handover of the National Colours by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irobor.

The Commander, Guards Brigade handed the flags over to the chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Lucky Irabor and in turn was handed over to the former President Muhammadu , then, Muhammadu Buhari Handed over the  National and Defence Flags to the New President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

9.28, Vice-President Kashim Shettima sworn in as the Vice President of The Federal Republic of Nigeria.

9.37, President Bola Tinubu was Sworn in as the President of Nigeria.

12.04 GMT, the former President as well as the former Vice-President departed the inauguration ground.

12.05 GMT, the new President, Bola Tinubu exchanged salute as part of the inauguration process.

12.16 GMT, President Bola Tinubu inspects the Defence parade of slow marching.

12.30 GMT, Former President Buhari flies out of Abuja with his family to his home town in Daura.

12.41 GMT, Parade in quick march begins.

12.55 GMT Air Force Display.

13.01 GMT The Presidential jet flies former president  Buhari  out of Abuja to Daura, Katsina State in Northwest Nigeria, also the former Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo departed Abuja for Lagos state, Nigeria’s commercial capital.

13.05 GMT Back to Eagle Square, Cultural Display by the National Cultural Troupe.

13.25 GMT Former Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo departs Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport en route Lagos State.

Tinubu’s inauguration marks the 7th consecutive democratic transition of power in the 24 years of unbroken democracy in Nigeria, following the return to civilian administration in 1999.

 

It was a weekend of activities from Friday with Jummat Prayers and lecture which took place at the National Mosque, Renewed Hope Inauguration Concert, Presidential Inauguration Lecture by former Kenyan President, Uhuru Kenyatta, presidential Inter-Denominational Church service on Sunday and the presidential inauguration banquet/gala night to wrap-up activities.

Some of the world leaders shave arrived in the capital city to grace the inauguration such as the Presidents of South Africa Sierra Leone, Ghana, Burundi, Liberia, the Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, the Central Africa Republic, Gabon, the Prime Minister of Morocco, the Vice President of Venezuela and many more.
