The United States President, Joe Biden, has pledged his administration’s continued commitment to support Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR on economic growth, improved security architecture, and respect for human rights.
He made the pledge in a congratulatory statement on Monday, May 29, 2023 in Abuja, on the inauguration of President Tinubu as the 16th President of Nigeria.
The US President noted that as Africa’s largest democracy and economy, Nigeria’s success was the world’s success.
According to him, leaders owe it to their people to show that democracy can deliver for their needs.
He also said the people-to-people connections between both countries ran deep and were nurtured by a vibrant Nigerian Diaspora in the United States.
“As we further deepen our partnership with Nigeria, I look forward to drawing even more on the ideas and energy of this dynamic connection between our countries.
“The United States will continue to work closely with Nigeria, as a friend and partner, to deliver a more peaceful and prosperous future for our world,” he said.
President Biden sent a presidential delegation led by Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Marcia Fudge to attend the inauguration.
