The Flying Eagles of Nigeria stunned hosts and six-time winners Argentina 2-0 to reach the quarter-finals of the 2023 FIFA U20 World Cup, at the Estadio San Juan in San Juan Province, Argentina.
Nigeria started with Salim Fago Lawal in attack, with Sunday Jude and Ibrahim Beji Muhammad on the wings. For the hosts, Alejo Veliz was up-front, with Brian Aguirre and Luka Romero supporting on the flanks.
Winger Muhammad opened the scoring for Nigeria in the 61st minute as the Flying Eagles stunned the fans in the Estadio San Juan.
Nigeria continued to press after the goal, and they were rewarded in injury time.
Substitute Rilwanu Sarki made it 2-0 in the first minute of added time to send the record six-time U-20 world champions packing from the tournament.
The Flying Eagles have done the impossible by beating a formidable Argentina side as the match finished 2-0.
Nigeria are now through to the quarterfinals of the FIFA U-20 World Cup after a masterclass display from Ladan Bosso’s boys, sending the tournament hosts out of the championship.

This is the first time the Flying Eagles are defeating a South American team at the U-20 World Cup since their debut in the competition in 1983.
Nigeria will now either face South Korea or Ecuador in the next round of the competition.
