Subsidy: Nigerian Government, Labour Congress meet at Presidential Villa

The Nigerian government has resumed talks with the leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC).

The meeting, which started at 17:00 GMT on Monday, June 5, 2023 is said to have been at the instance of the government and is expected to be discussing fallouts from the removal of fuel subsidy.

The Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila is leading the government’s team at the meeting.

Others include the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment, Kachollom Daju, James Faleke and former Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, among others.

The NLC delegation, comprising some Executive Committee members, is led by its President, Joe Ajaero.

The government held a similar meeting with the Trade Union Congress on Sunday, at the same venue.

The organized labour had threatened to embark on a nationwide strike from Wednesday, June 7, following the removal of fuel subsidy by the government, insisting that government must revert to status quo.

However, the National Industrial Court on Monday issued an order restraining the labour unions from embarking on strike.
