Ahead of the Tuesday inauguration of the 10th Assembly, two major speakership aspirants, Mr. Aliyu Betara and Mr Yusuf Gagdi have stepped down for the preferred candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Tajudeen Abbas.
Both men announced their withdrawal in Abuja after meeting with President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking on the latest development, Nigeria’s Vice President Kashim Shettima, commended the duo for agreeing to step down for the party’s choices.
“What binds us together is superior to what divides us. We are one big family. And together we can hold the Rubicon on Tuesday. We can not thank them enough for their graciousness and we want to commend the roles played by the Chief of Staff to the president, the Executive Governor of Niger, by the leadership of the party, here represented by the deputy Chairman North. I think our party members will hiss a sigh of relief,” Mr. Shettima said.
With these withdrawals, Abbas and the deputy speaker nominee, Hon. Benjamin Kalu have conquered most of the hurdles in their path to victory.
