Former CBN Governor, and past Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi has praised the president Tinubu-led administration for its efforts to reform the Nigerian economy since his assumption of office.

Sanusi who paid a courtesy visit to the President, said the decisions taken so far regarding the economy were long overdue.

He said he visited the president to formally congratulate him on his victory at the election, and to table other requests before him as a well meaning Nigerian.

He said: “I wear many caps. I wear the cap of an economist, so, I came to formally thank him for the steps he has taken to move this economy on course.

“As you know, many of the issues that we have been talking about…the subsidy…, the multiple exchange rate regimes and so on. These are issues that I have been talking about for a long time so I am happy that on his very first day he has addressed these issues and the markets are happy.

“And it is important, when the government does the right thing, for us to give them feedback.

“He has started on such a strong foot as far as the economy is concerned,” he added.

President Tinubu had announced on May 29 that fuel subsidy payment was going to end. Subsequently, he announced that, palliatives would be put in place to cushion its effect on the Nigerian people.

He also suspended the Central Bank Governor, signed a number of bills including the student loan bill and the electricity Act.

The president also suspended the EFCC chairman, among other efforts being put in place in the interest of the Nigerian economy.
