The Gbagyi ethnic group, the largest indigenous tribe in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city, has called on President Bola Tinubu to include them in the upcoming ministerial list.

Her Excellency Dorothy Nuhu-Aken’Ova, a prominent figure in the Gbagyi community, made the plea during a press briefing in Abuja on Friday.
According to her, the Gbagyi group has demanded that their tribe should not be overlooked during the list formation process.

Aken’Ova, who pointed out to the fact that the Gbagyi tribe is essential for the progress of Nigeria, also said that their inclusion in the ministerial list could be a bridge between the government and the indigenous people.
She also blamed some leaders of Gbagyi extraction for abandoning their collective responsibilities for personal political gains in the country.
“Most Gbagyi leaders who are members of a political class are being settled one way or the other in order to abandon our collective strategic interests which explains why we are convening this event in order to convince them to the contrary,” added Ms Nuhu Aken’Ova, who believes that an inclusion of the tribe in the ministerial list would bring about an important development.

The Gbagyi ethnic group represents a significant chunk of Abuja’s population, and it has long been fighting for its rights and recognition.
Ms Aken’Ova opined that the Gbagyi people are essential to the progress of Nigeria, and that they need to be represented in the highest levels.
“The present federal capital city of Nigeria is mainly Gbagyi land, which has been appropriated to house the seat of government and its agencies, needless to say no sufficient compensation can be given for such a sacrifice,” she noted.
Her Excellency Dorothy Nuhu Aken’Ova, however, pleaded with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to consider a Gbagyi indigene for the ministerial position in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city, in recognition of their sacrifices in hosting the seat of government.
