Niger State To Cultivate 7.6m Hectares Of Land To Boost Food Production

Governor Umaru Bago of Niger State says his administration has concluded plans to cultivate 7.6 million hectares of land to boost agricultural production for food security.

Bago disclosed this when he received a Blueprint from a pressure group tagged, “Technocrats and Professionals in Niger State”, at the Government House in Minna.

He explained that the state was blessed with 76,000 square kilometres of arable land, equivalent to 7.6 million hectares of land.

“With this size of land, we can go into aqua-culture, fishery, and cultivate both food and cash crops, including animal husbandry.

“This will significantly boost our food production and ensure food security for the people of Niger,” he said.

He explained that the move was part of his administration agenda to increase food production in the state.

He said that the Blueprint, developed by great minds, would help the government to actualize the state’s vision and mission.

The governor promised to study the document and recommendations for possible adoption.

He called on Niger state indigenes in the diaspora to come back home and support ongoing efforts to develop the state for the good of all.

Earlier, Professor Yahaya Kuta, Leader of the team, said the aim of the visit was to congratulate the governor on his election and to present the blueprint to him.

According to him, the Blueprint will help in Bago’s transformation agenda for the state.

Kuta explained that the Blueprint focuses majorly on agriculture, education, health, tourism, gender, and law reforms that would add value to the administration’s quest for development.
