The United States Agency for International Development, USAID- Integrated Health Program, IHP has organised a Stakeholders Engagement Meeting to address all maternal and child health Practitioners to adopt the baby shower strategy to reduce maternal mortality of both the mothers and children in the state.

This is in a bid to improve the healthcare delivery for both mothers and Children in Ebonyi State Southeast Nigeria,

The  USAID- IHP Program Coordinator, Mrs. Uduak Okum disclosed this during the Stakeholders meeting at Osborn la Palm Hotel in Abakaliki, the State Capital.

Mrs Uduaku said “Baby shower is the care given to pregnant women and their unborn children, adding that the aim for the program is to reduce child mortality in Ebonyi State”.

The Director in charge of Reproductive Health and Convener of the Program, Mrs MaryJane Ikechukwu said the health stakeholders should sanitize their individual sectors to get high performance in delivery as Ananda Marga Universal Relief Team AMURT and other maternal and child health centers take top in delivery services in the state.

The nurse in charge of Azuiyokwu maternity and child health center, Mrs Odo Elizabeth said her strategy in maintaining high delivery facilities is carefree, babies wear and free delivery services for the women as she found out that some of them give birth at home after antenatal instead of coming to the hospital where they can receive adequate healthcare.

The Stakeholders were sensitized on how to deliver their services with mind of saving humanity as IHP is working hard towards providing adequate facilities for the health sectors.
